The History of Bella Freud – Bernard Boutique

The History of Bella Freud

Bella Freud is storyteller who displays an intellectual playfulness through style. With her father, Lucien, being a famous British painter and the psychoanalytic pioneer Sigmund Freud being her grandfather, sparking a global conversation through creativity is hardwired into the Brands DNA.

She launched her eponymous label in 1990 and was named ‘most innovative designer’ at the London fashion awards a year later. Her designs are instantly recognisable and her signature ‘word’ jumpers gained a cult following around the world. Worn by the likes of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Keith Richards, Laura Bailey, Salma Hayek, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jane Fonda and Eddie Redmayne, they are the embodiment of her preoccupation with appropriating serious ideas about the subconscious into a playful fashion context.

Her collections always draw inspiration from some of fashion and music’s most iconic stars and people who love both of these industries equally tend to also fall in love with Bella Freud and her brand. The 1970’s is inarguably a time when fashion and music collided and thrived with creativity and innovation, that’s why the ‘1970’ sweaters are still a must-have every year. For AW20, she has redesigned the jumpers using mohair, glitter threads and different colour ways. We have new styles online, so if you are looking for a timeless sweater that can slot alongside the rest of your colder weather staples for the new season and can be worn year after year, then Bella Freud is the answer.
