Sweater weather is around the corner, as emotional as it is to watch summer depart, it is rather exciting to be feeling cosy these upcoming months. Who wouldn't want to cocoon themselves in layers of the softest yarn? However, this AW22 don't be afraid to break the boundaries when choosing your knitwear!

The Hadid's have been parading the streets in (some what may say) controversial fashion choices. The sisters have been seen shrouded in baggy-loose-fitting layers; wearing a concoction of mishmash textures, clashing colours and crazy headwear.

This particular trend, which has been booming all over Tik Tok, is known as the weird-girl aesthetic, because of the fact that someone wouldn't typically assemble something so outlandish and eccentric. It is known for its hyperfeminine aesthetic that has been cemented in pop culture and it has been influenced by Japanese Harajuku fashion. The weird-girl aesthetic  radiates y2k maximalism as it expresses the desire to try everything on at once; from colour, to wacky kitsch accessories. Stereotypically weird-girl  has negative connotations when it shouldn't really; someone who embodies the weird-girl aesthetic goes against the absurd norms and expectations of fashion trends. It is a carefree mantra of taking ownership in wearing something because of the desire to wear it rather than trying to adhere with everyone else.

The weird-girl aesthetic is understated and quirky, the outfit choices may be perceived as totally random, but each item worn is usually consciously considered and it's about getting the right component for the overall look. It can be seen as a fantasy fashion that revisits childhood and youthful dressing, which emphasises creativity and individualism. Importantly, it's a fun fashion trend that celebrates yourself and helps communicate authentic identities of people's fashion taste.
